Over at the USC Viterbi Institute of Engineering, Dr. Theodore Berger and his team have replicated the functions of the brain associated with short-term memory.

This only has an effect for about 10 seconds but proves the theory and application. So in the future it might be possible to remember for a lot longer and gain that knowledge instantly.
